Just been a little busy

26 04 2007

Joe Buissink
Last week I was a little busy. I hosted Joe Buissink for a one-day seminar and now I am busy getting ready for the next two seminars! I am hosting Zack Arias (he’ll be staying at my house, I better start cleaning!) for the One Light Workshop and then Robin Pesa will be coming down from Pittsburgh for her business workshop. One Light is Sold Out, but there is still room available for Robin’s workshop.

On Saturday, I did my first newborn session (pictures will be available next week) and then a friend, Don Harper from The Edge Photography Studio called me to help with a wedding in Maryland. So, I’ve been running around. :)

I’ll be doing some more shooting in May and I am still looking for someone to trash their dress. So, please let me know if you are interested. :)

Today, I am a Hokie

24 04 2007

Hokie Ribbon

I’ve been meaning to write something, I just couldn’t think of what to say.

About eight years ago, I was working for a school and the thought of a school shooting was always in the back of my mind. There were several kids that certainly could have pulled off something like that. A neighboring school district had a Spring Dance. A kid came to the dance and shot a teacher, killing him. It really freaked me out. When all those other shootings happened, it was so distant because it didn’t involve me. But this one hit closer to home.

Last Monday, when I heard about the shootings at Virginia Tech it brought back a rush of memories from that high school shooting eight years ago. I live in Virginia. Right now as I sit I am about 10 minutes away from the neighborhood where the shooter lived and went to school.

I just wanted to say that my prayers are with the Virginia Tech Community.

Today, I am a Hokie.

First Haircut

12 04 2007

Charis is almost four and she hasn’t had her hair cut…Well, not until last week.

The other day, big brother Nathanael decided that he would use his craft scissors to play hair-stylist…on his sister’s hair! It was the week before Easter and we didn’t want Charis looking like she got in a fight with the clippers, so off to the local hair salon for repairs.

Trash The Dress

4 04 2007

I am a member of many professional photography organizations and discussion groups. One thing that seems to be a hot topic of discussion is trashing the dress.

I have been wanting to do a Trash the Dress session, but I haven’t been able to find a bride willing to go through with it. What do you do with the dress after you have worn it? My wife and I will be married nine years this June. Her dress is in a sealed box, which is in a basement closet. We haven’t seen her dress since our wedding night. When our daughters get married – 20, 30 (do I hear 40!) years from now, styles will have changed a lot since June 14, 1998. No offense to my wife, but I am sure that they will be looking for a dress of their own to get married in. But, being a guy, how do I say to a bride “So, would you like to trash the dress?” I’d probably get slapped, kicked, and other unprintable things. My health would be in serious jeopardy. Well, what better than a former bride to lend just the right words. A friend of mine recently posted this to her blog:
